We Take Action…
and Invite You to Join Us!

One of our goals as an organization is to nurture an engaged and active community! To that end, CFRW provides multiple opportunities for involvement: First Saturday Seminars, Second Saturday Cleanups, Third Saturday Paddles; CreekWatchers, a community science program; our bi-monthly river-themed book club; internships for students; and more!

Additionally, staff and interns are actively engaged in numerous projects supported by members, donors, and grants.

In the past three years, we embarked on an EPA-funded project to reduce nutrient loading into Greenfield Lake; we continued our multi-funded project to modify the Rock Arch Rapids at Lock and Dam 1; and through a federal grant, we gathered important data on recreational fishing in the Cape Fear. We also became a Swim Guide affiliate, monitoring recreational waterways and sharing results with the public through the spring and summer months. We spearheaded a microplastics reduction project in conjunction with all Waterkeepers Carolina, installing a trash capturing device on Burnt Mill Creek in 2022. To further reduce plastics in our waterways, we installed multiple trash capturing devices in Wilmington and Leland’s storm drains. With our community’s support, we will continue on with these and more projects and programs now and in the future!
