Paddle Series

May Paddle

Your Riverkeeper will be out of town at River Rally on this month’s paddle date – May 18th.  River Rally is the largest gathering of river advocates in the country and a great opportunity for CFRW staff to learn from others about river protection and improvement…and have some fun.
In lieu of a guided paddle this month your Riverkeer has suggested a good route for you and other CFRW paddlers to explore. We will not have any boats available for rent but if you have your own gear we hope you hit the water and keep the Paddle Series afloat while we are out of town.
Feel free to meet at CFRW offices if you want to caravan up to the put-in together. Also, don’t forget to eat lunch at the famous Holland’s Fish Camp Restaurant when you are done!

Suggested Route!

Explore the Northeast Cape Fear River between Sawpit Landing (off White Stocking Road) and the Shaw Highway Wildlife ramp. This is a great section of river with a textbook example of an oxbow lake, several nice coves, and a few creeks to poke our heads into. The trip is 5-6 miles depending on how much exploring you do (and how straight you can paddle).  If you would like to make your own shuttle from the put in and take out, here is a map to help guide the way!
